Tips to Speed Run LumiHealth

Having started LumiHealth in early 2021, I was determined to achieve the full $380 offered by the programme. If I were to have the best shot at achieving this before it ends in 2 years, I had to find the most efficient method to complete it. The programme at its core was simple; Earn points by completing a series of health challenges tracked using the Apple Watch, which enables access to in-game coins that can then be converted to real world dollars. Here are the tips I use to maximise my LumiHealth run:

  1. Close all 3 rings every day of the week
It should come as no surprise that a programme aimed at getting you active and healthy would reward you for being consistently, well.. active. LumiHealth sets a weekly goal to close all 3 Activity rings on your Apple Watch for a certain number of days. Hitting the weekly goal rewards you with 8000 points, which is the most number of points offered at one go, equivalent to roughly 3.5 Wellness Challenges. In addition, you also receive 100 points for every ring that you close, potentially allowing you to earn a whopping 10,100 points each week. There’s also something really cathartic about watching Lu move a great distance, almost effortlessly, across the chapter.
  2. Choose Wellness Challenges with least number of days
You typically get to choose from 3 Wellness Challenges to complete each time (I did not notice I could swipe right to reveal more challenges at first), ranging from completing certain amount of exercise, using the Breathe app, or simply declaring that you had made a healthy choice that day. Each challenge offers a different number of points (ranging from 2200–2900 points), and requires different number of days to complete (2–6 days). While it might be tempting to choose the challenge with the highest points, the smarter option is to consider the one with the highest points per day. Based on calculations made over a period of 5 months, challenges with the lowest day completion requirements almost always give you the most bang for your buck. For that reason, you can almost ignore the challenge points and simply focus on the number of days. And since you can only accept the next Wellness Challenge after you have completed your current one, it is much more effective, points-wise, to choose the challenges that take the least number of days to complete.
  3. Complete Wellness Challenges early
As mentioned before, your current Wellness Challenge has to be completed before you can choose the next one. Particularly on the day where you would clear your last requirement to complete the current challenge, always aim to finish it as early in the day as possible. This would allow you to access the next Wellness Challenge and have sufficient time to clear one of its requirements on the same day that you completed the previous challenge, effectively allowing you to ‘gain’ an extra day.
  4. Split Exercise sessions
If your current Wellness Challenge involves exercising for a certain duration (e.g. 15mins), and you are on the last requirement, you may wish to end the exercise session on Apple Watch right after you have met the required duration and log into LumiHealth immediately to register the challenge completion. If you then receive another exercise-type Wellness Challenge, you can simply start another exercise session and go on to clear the new requirement for that day, within a single workout (albeit a longer one).
  5. Check LumiHealth app at least twice a day
While you typically have only one Wellness Challenge active at any given time, LumiHealth does occasionally offer ‘extra’ challenges that can be completed in tandem with existing Wellness Challenges. The occurrence of these extra challenges seem to be random, so checking in periodically on the app is the best way to catch them when they do happen. Sometimes, they may also offer short surveys that take less than a minute to complete for a small amount of points.

By applying all the above tips, and assuming an average Wellness Challenge takes 3 days to complete and awards 2300 points, I am able to obtain roughly 63,400 points/ month. And that’s it. All in all, it would likely take me another year to finally claim the full $380, but perhaps by then I would have gained something even more valuable. After all, health is worth its weight in gold no?
